KOLKATA: The West Bengal Government on Friday ruled out providing sops to Dunlop India to facilitate the re-opening of its factory at Sahaganj in the State’s Hooghly district where work was suspended on November 30. It is not a ‘sick unit’ and so is not entitled to benefits (for the revival of sick units lying with the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction) according to the rules, State’s Labour Minister Mrinal Banerjee said here on Friday. “The State Government cannot just provide relief to every other industry,” he added. Dunlop India Chairman Pawan Kumar Ruia had said here on Wednesday that his company was working on the modalities for the re-opening of the Sahaganj factory with the hope of receiving financial incentives from the Government. He had met Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, who demanded that the State Government keep its promise to provide certain incentives to the company when the present management had taken over the company in 2006. She had also called for granting tax concessions to the company to enable it to tide over the present crisis.
