More facilities: Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T.R. Baalu speaking after inaugurating Krishnagiri-Thoppur NH-4 in Dharmapuri on Saturday. – DHARMAPURI: Unity among alliance party workers is the need of the hour to ensure victory in the coming Lok Sabha elections under the leadership of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. Mr. Baalu was inaugurating the four-lane Krishnagiri-Thoppur NH-4 here on Saturday. Mr. Baalu indicated that the DMK front came to power after the last elections because of its victorious alliance with the PMK (without mentioning the name). In his 25-minute speech he mentioned the name of Ramdoss at least five to seven times. He asked party workers to remain united. Mr. Balu said that Maritime University will be inaugurated by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on January. A Maritime Convention Centre with international standards was being constructed at a cost of Rs. 1,500 crores near the Maritime University. The centre will have modern facilities with a seating capacity of 15,000. He added that under the National Maritime Development Programme, the facilities at Chennai, Tuticorin, Ennore ports was being upgraded at a cost of Rs. 13,284 crores. During the Eleventh Plan period 15,600 km express highways would be built. A draft proposal of Rs. 66 lakh crores was cleared by the Ministry on December 3. Mr. Baalu said the 180-km Krishnagiri-Puducherry NH-66 will be made four lane. A feasibility report was recently cleared.
