Tamil Nadu enters quarterfinals

HYDERABAD: Tamil Nadu defeated Maharashtra 25-10, 25-14, 25-16 in a Group ‘C’ match to qualify for the quarterfinals of the 24th all-India Postal volleyball tournament at the Lal Bahadur Stadium, here on Saturday.

In a Group ‘A’ match, host Andhra Pradesh recorded a 25-8, 25-13, 25-17 victory.

Other results: Orissa bt Delhi 25-14, 25-12, 25-9; Kerala bt Uttaranchal 25-13, 25-10.

Easy for Globe

Hyderabad Globe recorded a 4-1 win over Accountant General (AP) in the SAAP Budweiser premier league football championship at the Gymkhana grounds here.

Eric struck twice in the 10th and 16th minutes and in the second session, Sadiq Pasha and Nikesh scored once each for Globe. Mangboi reduced the margin.

In another match, State Bank of India and AOC Centre were locked in a 1-1 draw.

Lateesh scored for AOC, while for the bankmen Majid scored the equaliser.

Due to the non-availability of the ground, the event will now resume on December 21.

Double for Gopal

P. Gopal of Railway Boys High School won a double by winning both the boys’ under-10 600m and the 200m events in the Hyderabad district inter-School athletics meet at the Osmania University here.
