Letters to the Editor
It is unfortunate that the 26/11 terrorist attack in Mumbai has given us a reason to believe that Hindu and Islamist terrorists do not exist and that only an enemy country is waging a proxy war against India. Let us be more realistic. The pattern of terrorist strikes carried out in various parts of India reveals that the real motivation behind them is religion. We need to combat the terrorists’ game of deception. There is also an urgent need to re-examine our national policies. Omar Luther King, New Delhi After the Mumbai attacks many questions were asked and doubts raised, uniting Indians for the first time. The film world and celebrities came out in the open, the young were visibly angry and the old came up with solutions. But we did not take the views of the victims of internal terror — and their families — unleashed to establish the superiority of a religion or caste. Our fight should be directed at the bureaucracy and our demand should be corruption-free governance. For any concrete response to an issue to emerge, we need to take the common masses along. Donald DCruz, Kollam
