Swamy Ranganathananda’s birth centenary celebrated

KADAPA: Monks and devotees of Ramakrishna Math and Mission celebrated the birth centenary of Swami Ranganathananda, the 13th president of the Math and mission at its campus at Putlampalle here on Sunday.

Swami Ranganathananda was a spiritualist, multi-linguist, soft-spoken and humble personality, who inspired youth as well as the aged persons with his selfless love and service to the poorer sections, Swami Atmavidananda, president of Ramakrishna Math, Kadapa said. The swamiji became president of the Hyderabad centre in 1973, where he developed Vivekananda Vani School of Languages, a temple, library and delivered spiritual discourses, he said. He drew inspiration from Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda.

The Swamiji went on to become the Math and Mission vice-president in 1989 and delivered spiritual lectures for the benefit of lakhs of persons. Recalling his association with Swami Ranganathananda, the Math secretary Swami Sukritananda said he had great interest in ‘Ramakrishna Prabha’, the Math’s Telugu monthly journal. The swamiji was a recipient of Indira Gandhi National Integration Award and Gandhi peace prize.

Members of the Math M. Janakiram, T.V. Narayana Reddy, Kota Subba Rao, Subbirami Reddy, D. Subba Reddy participated. The swamijis, devotees and students rendered bhajans.
