“We’ve won unparalleled victories”

B. Muralidhar Reddy

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa has asserted that no force can “reverse the unparalleled victories” achieved by the security forces against the LTTE.

At a function to mark the “War Hero’s Commemoration” here on Saturday, Mr. Rajapaksa claimed the military is setting an example to the world without facing a single drawback since the Mavilaru battle during the Wanni liberation operation.

“I don’t think there is a single battle in the world parallel to the battle fought by our security forces at present in which they secure victory after victory without facing a single drawback,” he said, adding: “The forward march of the valiant troops could not be stopped by chemical weapons, air raids, earth-bunds and monsoon rain.”

Separately, the military said the 59th Division, while advancing towards one of the few remaining LTTE’s key bases, Mullathivu, confronted LTTE cadre on several occasions, “inflicting maximum damages to the enemy.”

It said the soldiers further extended their defences while consolidating newly-captured areas.
