THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Saraswathi Gandhi, veteran freedom fighter and wife of Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson Kantilal Gandhi, died at a private hospital here on Sunday. She was 86. She had returned to her hometown Thiruvananthapuram in 1983, when her husband, who was a doctor in Mumbai, died. She had been living here since then, except for a brief period when she visited her sons in the U.S. All through her life she had practised Gandhian lifestyle and had undergone imprisonment during the freedom struggle. She was born in a family that was deeply involved in the freedom struggle. She is survived by two sons, who are settled in the U.S. — Special Correspondent
