Remarkable revival - Reader's Mail

This refers to the report “Grand funeral for a patriarch” dated Dec-10. It is heartening to read that in the post Communist Russia the Orthodox Church has been elevated to a defacto State religion, even as Russia’s other traditional religions-Islam, Judaiasm and Buddhism have seen a remarkable revival. All the religions proclaim that nothing lives in this world but truth. The advance of science also makes religion more necessary. Civilisation is founded on religion. If we reject religion and God we are in a morass of disunion, corruption, greed and dishonesty.

Temple priests and mobiles

It is quite irritable to find priests in temples using mobile phones while on duty. They tie the mobiles to their waist beneath dhoti. . The Endowment Department should issue instructions to their administrative staff for strict compliance.

The government is targeting the youth for ills done ages ago by introducing caste reservation. The government is destroying equal opportunity to all. Caste should not be the sole criterion for determining backwardness.

Deviation in policy

This is with reference to “Directors appointed to Power Utilities” ( The Hindu dated December 02. As soon as Rajasekhara Reddy took over he announced that no retired employee would be re-appointed in any position.
