Flight disruption

On Tuesday (09-12-08) morning, 19 flights were delayed due to poor visibility at RGIA, Shamshabad. However, the visibility at Begumpet was reportedly good and flight operations were on. Chief of GMR himself landed at Begumpet in his private jet when his own airport was not available for travellers. When the city has two airports, both should have been kept active so that in case of a disability of one airport, flights could be diverted to the other.

It is disgusting to note that Begumpet is available for VIPs and moneyed persons having their own private jets. This is apparently due to the commercial interests of the developers of the new airport.

Seats for seniors in RTC buses

The RTC has no uniform policy in allotting seats to senior citizens, the aged and infirm who use RTC as a mode of conveyance. One has to hunt for seats as many buses have no proper marking or mention anywhere inside. Neither the conductor nor the driver bothers to direct them to such seats. Why not a particular colour at the back side for such seats, near the driver in the front side with marking on the side?

Temple priests and mobiles

It is quite irritable to find priests in temples using mobile phones while on duty even in the sanctum sanctorum. They tie the mobiles to their waist beneath dhoti. Display on prohibition of cell-phone usage in temples is just an eyewash. The Endowment Department should issue instructions to their administrative staff for strict compliance.

Caste politics

The government is targeting the youth for ills done ages ago by introducing caste reservation. The government is destroying equal opportunity to all. Caste should not be the sole criterion for determining backwardness. Politicians who want to divide people along caste lines are to be condemned.

Deviation in policy

This is with reference to the report “Directors appointed to Power Utilities” ( The Hindu dated December 02).

As soon as Rajasekhara Reddy assumed power, he announced that no retired employee would be re-appointed in any

position.

However, retired engineers are being appointed directors of APGENCO and APTRANSCO, thus

deviating from the policy announced.
