AP in final

HYDERABAD: Defending champion, Andhra Pradesh, set up a title-clash with Karnataka in the 24th all-India postal volleyball tournament at the Lal Bahadur Stadium here on Sunday.

In the first semifinal, Andhra Pradesh defeated Kerala 25-19, 25-19, 25-20 while Karnataka got the better of Gujarat 25-21, 25-19, 25-19 in the other.

Other results: Quarterfinals: AP bt Tamil Nadu 25-17, 25-16, 25-9; Kerala bt West Bengal 22-25, 25-20, 25-13, 25-21; Gujarat bt U.P. 25-14, 25-14, 25-14; Karnataka bt Orissa 25-13, 25-21, 25-17.

Hyderabad wins

Hyderabad defeated Lucknow 3-1 in the football preliminary round of the all-India Reserve Bank of India sports meet at Goshamahal Grounds here.

Earlier, Deepak Singhal, CGM, HRD (RBI), inaugurated the event. Arjuna Awardee Mohd Habeeb (football) and international badminton player Gutta Jwala were felicitated on the occasion.

Jeevetesh wins title

J. Sai Agni Jeevetesh won the boys’ under-10 category of the Brilliant Trophy State open chess championship here.

Final placings: Boys: Under-14: 1. Mallikarjun, 2. Yasasvi Bharadwaj. Under-12: 1. Prateek Srivastav, 2. Abhay. Under-10: 1. J. Sai Agni Jeevetesh, 2. G.V.V.S. Rao. Under-8: 1. P. Swaroop, 2. R. Puneeth. Under-6: 1. S.S.V. Aditya, 2. M. Aradhya.

Men: M. Vinay Kumar & J. Malleswara Rao (joint-winners), 3rd place: J. R. C. Prasad.

B-Division hockey

Hyderabad Hockey Association will organise B-Division league championship from December 23 at Gymkhana Grounds. The participating teams may collect the fixtures copies from the HHA office at Begumpet on December 19.

Sai, Saritha win

K.V. Sai Kumar and M. Saritha won the sub-junior boys and girls’ singles titles respectively in the M. Chandra Sekhara Sarma memorial tennikoit tournament here.

The results: Finals: Sub-juniors: Girls: M. Saritha bt Roja Kumari 21-17, 22-20. Boys: K.V. Sai Kumar bt D. Chandu 22-20, 21-18.
