AP, TN qualify

Panaji: Andhra defeated Goa by an innings and 83 runs in the final round of the South Zone Vijay Merchant under-16 Trophy cricket tournament, at Mapusa on Sunday.

Tamil Nadu was held to a draw by Kerala and finished second with 16 points from five matches.

Andhra, which topped the South Zone with 18 points, will meet the North Zone runner-up in the quarterfinals at Kanpur while Tamil Nadu will meet the winner of North Zone from December 26 to 28.

The scores: Andhra 277 bt Goa 84 & 110. Kerala 150 & 174 for eight (Navneeth Jose 27, Sanju Samson 32, Sally Salmon 36 n.o., B. Aparijith four for 32) drew with Tamil Nadu 335 for six decl. (Ganga Raju 63, Baba Indrajeet 44, R. Ananth 66, K. Bharath Shankar 68, Abhishek Mohan three for 92). — PTI
