PUDUCHERRY: Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School conducted its silver jubilee year inaugural celebrations on December 6 and 7. A special cover was released. Archbishop of Puducherry and Cuddalore Most Rev. A. Anandarayar solemnised a holy mass on the first day. A silver jubilee year logo was released on the occasion and a new additional block was also opened. MLA A. Anbazhagan, Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Church Fr. A. Thomas, Principal of the school S. A. Lourdusamy, auditor of the school K. Nataraj Prabhu and Chief Manager of Siruthozhil branch of State Bank of India V. Sekhar were present. On the second day, Senior Superintendent of Post Office, Puducherry division Santhana Raman released a special cover. Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam received the first cover. Member of Parliament M. Ramadass released the school magazine “Amalorpavam a Memoir.” Advocate General of Tamil Nadu G. Masilamani presented gold coins to outstanding students of Class X of 2007-2008. The school’s Vice Principal Jalaja Balakrishnan spoke on the occasion. Winners all the wayStudents of Vidhya Niketan won several prizes in various competitions. S. Sathana and J. Preethi of Class V took part in the Regional Level Science Exhibition (Maths-Model Making) and received a consolation prize for their exhibit. O. Harish of Class VIII was selected for the National level Badminton Tournament from zone II. He was one among the two students selected for the national level. A student of Class VIII, S. Devasena has been selected as the Champion of Champions in the girls group in the 23rd Pondicherry State Yoga Sport Championship 2008 conducted by Pondicherry Yogasana Association and S. Vidhya Shankari of Class V got the sixth prize in the championship. Celebration timeAt Blessed Mother Teresa Model Higher Secondary School, the students won prizes in English elocution, Tamil elocution, essay writing, singing and dancing competitions conducted by the Department of School Education. In nine events, the students won prizes – three first prizes, three second and three consolation prizes. Bharathi Kalvi Kazhagam conducted an inter-school competition and students K. Vigneswar of Class VIII and Parthiban of Class V won the first and second prizes respectively in drawing and fancy dress competitions. The school organised Christmas celebrations and Parish Priest Fr. Arumai Selvam and Manager of the school Fr. Paul Rajkumar took part. Christmas carols, folk dance and western dance were held. CampA cadet from Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School M. Sriram attended the Best Cadet Training camp from November 28 to December 4 at NCC headquarters – Puducherry. As many as 16 cadets from the school belonging to NCC Air wing and Army took part in the NCC day celebrations held on December 4 at the headquarters and won prizes for drawing and elocution competitions. Almost all students contributed generously in connection with the Armed Forces Flag Day. The cadets collected the amount from every class under the guidance of second officers S. Ramesh and P.T. Xavier. Science Olympiad Foundation for excellence in science and information technology, New Delhi conducted the 8th National Cyber Olympiad for school children and 178 students from the school participated. Harish Balaji of Class VI, Kabilash of Class VII, Jermay Jackson of Class VIII, Harihara Priyan of Class IX and G. Harish of Class X were declared as school toppers and received medals and appreciation certificates. At the Olympiad, Vizay Vigneshan of Class XII obtained the 193rd All India rank and G.C. Shyam Sundhar of Class XI bagged the 351st rank at the All India level. They were declared eligible to proceed to the second level competition. Principal of the School Fr. M.S. John Bosco congratulated G. Sivagnanam, lecturer in computer science for training the participants. As per the directions of the Education Department, the “School Disaster Management Committee” was constituted with the Principal as the chairperson, T.A.J. Edmond, lecturer in commerce and S. Viswakumar, lecturer in chemistry as coordinators.
