Kakinada: S. Challappa, Principal Secretary for Agriculture and Horticulture, has asked the management of JNTU to introduce new courses for coast guarding and also for facing natural calamities. Addressing a meeting chaired by Allam Apparao, Vice-Chancellor of the JNTU, the Principal Secretary said that coastal districts between Nellore and Visakhaptnam faces calamities each year and no permanent solution was found till now. He hoped that any new course like disaster management course on natural calamities would find a wayout to cut down the losses occurring during that time. He said the government was ready to support any course that relates to disaster management. He recalled that Mumbai attacks could not be controlled by local police. The entire operation was done by well-trained commandos and asked engineering students of JNTU to come out of university like well trained commandos in all aspects. G. Ravibabu, Additional Commissioner of State disaster management said that the government made a proposal with Rs.400 crores to World Bank to fight natural calamities and disaster management and it would be implemented soon. The project would first be implemented in Nellore and Khammam districts, he added.
