Inter-NIT sports and games meet begins

WARANGAL: All-India inter-NIT sports and games meet began here at the NIT Warangal campus. Students from 20 NITs will be showcasing their talents in various sports and games during the four-day meet.

Over 350 men and women would be participating in 38 events. Students from NITs in Rourkela, Durgapur, Trichy, Jaipur, Surat, Allahabad, Jamshedpur, Bhopal and Andhra Pradesh were taking part.

Participating as the chief guest, Warangal Range DIG K. Lakshman Mohan said such sports meets help promote fraternity and national integration. It was a great opportunity for the participants to travel to other places and mingle with different people. Olympics national athletics team coach N. Ramesh said lack of physical exercise leads to severe health problems. He felt every college should make it mandatory for students to take part in sports. He said professional colleges rarely encouraged students to take up sports. NIT Director Prof Y.V. Rao, sports committee chairman K. Laxma Reddy, PED head P. Ravi Kumar and others were present.
