MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: Yuvraj Singh and Sachin Tendulkar celebrate after their undefeated partnership ensured a famous win for India in the first Test against England. Chennai: On a historic Monday, Sachin Tendulkar guided India to a famous six-wicket win over England in the first cricket Test at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium here. The maestro remained unbeaten with 103 (196b, 9x4) as India scored 387 for the highest triumphant chase in the sub-continent. India’s feat at Chepauk is also the fourth highest in the list of all-time successful pursuits in Test cricket. The host leads the two-Test series 1-0. The second Test begins at Mohali on December 19. Tendulkar’s 41st Test hundred was scripted on a dusty fifth-day pitch of variable bounce. He was involved in a rousing, undefeated fifth-wicket partnership of 163 with Yuvraj Singh (85 not out, 131b, 8x4, 1x6). The match was in the balance when Yuvraj joined Tendulkar after lunch at 224 for four. The contest was over when Tendulkar, on 99, swept off-spinner Graeme Swann to the fence. An emotional Tendulkar was embraced by non-striker Yuvraj and the Englishmen were quick to congratulate the champion cricketer. Yuvraj struck some forceful strokes during his stirring effort in a pressure situation. Virender Sehwag was adjudged the Man of the Match for his hugely influential 83 on day four.
