Arur Lake to be de-silted soon

Staff Reporter

Wild growth of plants hits storage level

Channels carrying water to the lake and the surplus courses will also be improved

NAMAKKAL: The district administration will initiate immediate efforts to de-silt the Arur Lake, a major water spread in Mohanur block in the district.

The lake, which has a water spread area of 120 hectares, can be used effectively for rainwater harvesting and to improve the ground water table, Collector U. Sagayam said after inspecting the water body recently.

Storage level

Wild growth of plants and trees in the lake led to the accumulation of silt, which affected the storage level in the water body.

The administration would initiate steps to remove the trees and de-silt the lake.

The channels carrying water to the lake and the surplus courses would also be improved as a part of the work. The bunds would be strengthened, he added.

While interacting with the villagers, the Collector also promised them that the administration would increase the height of a small bridge in the village.

Senior officials and elected representatives of local bodies accompanied the Collector.

Participating in another programme, Mr. Sagayam inaugurated a bus service from Namakkal to Valaiyapatti via Arur.

The service would benefit a large number of students from Arur and neighbouring villages, who were studying in the schools at Valaiyapatti and Namakkal.
