Bomb hoax at State Bank of India branch

Staff Reporter

Kakinada: Panic prevailed at the SBI main branch here due to a bomb threat on Tuesday. However, it turned out to be a hoax call made from a public telephone booth. A short while after the bank started transacting business, the miscreant made the phone call and warned that a bomb was planted inside the bank and it could explode at any time.

A few staff members of the bank and some customers were immediately sent out because of the threat. This set the alarm bells ringing and the police rushed to the spot along with a bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs. But, after an hour – long search of the bank premises, the policemen found that it was an act of mischief.

Kakinada circle inspector Ch. Ravi Kant and his team cordoned off the bank and did not allow anyone inside while the search was on. As the bank is located on the main road, the incident obstructed the traffic for sometime as a large number of curious onlookers swarmed the spot.
