Haryana focus on affordable health care services for all

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has decided to adopt three-pronged strategy to provide qualitative and affordable health care services to the people in the State, an official spokesman said here on Tuesday.

He disclosed that essential medicines would be provided free of cost to all OPD/Casualty patients and deliveries by the Health institutions. Now, the patients would not have to purchase medicines from the open market, as no Medical Officer would be allowed to prescribe such medicines in OPD/Casualty and for institutional deliveries as are not available in the institutions.

He said that the procurement of the medicines would be need-based and these would be purchased at one time for not more than three months requirement by a committee under the Chairmanship of Civil Surgeon.

The district Health and Family Welfare Society would review the performance under this scheme with special emphasis on uninterrupted supply of essential medicines to all OPD/Casual patients and institutional deliveries. The medicine kits for sub-centres would be procured by the State headquarters. To ensure quality of medicines, regular and random samples of drugs would be taken at the time of supply, he added.

The spokesman said that special recruitment process had also been initiated by the Department to ensure availability of medical officers and specialists in the health institutions of the State.

He said that a number of specialized clinics such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, infertility, glaucoma, neurology, cardiology and endocrinology had been started at General Hospital, Panchkula on pilot basis from November 1, 2008. These clinics would work once a week in the evening from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
