CHAMPIONS: Aditya Prakash and N. Sikki Reddy, who took the honours in the junior National badminton tournament.

SIVAKASI: Aditya Prakash of Karnataka and N. Sikki Reddy of Andhra Pradesh bagged a double each at the 33rd junior National badminton championship, organised by the Virudhunagar District Badminton Association, here on Tuesday.

Third seed Aditya demolished top seed B. Sumeeth Reddy of Andhra Pradesh 21-10, 21-9 in the boys’ singles final. Aditya moved into top gear in no time and never allowed his opponent to settle down. He took a 15-4 advantage and wrapped up the first game soon.

Too good

The Karnataka youngster maintained the momentum in the second game as well. His power-packed smashes and ability to retrieve even difficult shots proved too much for Sumeeth.

Aditya took the second 21-9 to finish off the match in 26 minutes. He also won the boys’ doubles title partnering Prateek Patel of Air India.

In the girls’ singles final, second seed Sikki Reddy overcame a spirited challenge from third seed P.C. Thulasi of Kerala to win 21-16, 10-21, 21-15.

With the scores level at six-all, there was nothing much to separate between the two players in the earlier part of the first game. But Sikki, with better court craft, raced to a 14-7 lead and never looked back.

A much composed Thulasi staged a fight back in the second. She got the placements right to leave her rival stranded. She won the second game after securing a significant advantage.

However, it was Sikki, who grabbed the initiative in the decider. Thulasi tried to bring down the margin, but by then Sikki had taken firm control of the match.

Sikki and Thulasi teamed up to beat Vaishali Baria and Saili Rane of Air India 21-12, 21-13 in the girls’ doubles final.
