MADURAI: In a novel initiative, the city police organised a four-day counselling programme for its personnel retiring in 2009.

How to spend time on superannuation, how to keep fit (both mental and physical) in post-retirement life and where to invest the savings were a few topics addressed by experts.

Delivering the valedictory address, Commissioner of Police K. Nandabalan said that in almost every other profession, people could spend time with their families while in service. However, police personnel remained under stress all the time.

The retiring personnel should adapt themselves to the new phase of life and spend time happily with their children and be active, Mr. Nandabalan said.

Lifestyle management consultant Khamer Naaz offered dos’ and don’ts for these personnel with a stress on diet. “Regular yoga and meditation will keep the mind and body fresh,” she said.

Nagaichuvai Mandram president G. Gnanasambandan said that such personnel should never feel let down. “It is just another process of life.”
