Havelock bridge to be developed into tourist spot

Rajahmundry: The State Tourism Project Management Unit (STPMU) is prepared to develop the historic Havelock bridge across the Godavari into a tourist spot in association with Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation once the Railway Board gives its assent to the proposal.

The Indian Railways formally expressed its willingness to give the nearly 150-year-old bridge on lease to RMC but the final decision is yet to be taken by Railway Board, said STPMU additional chief Sunita Bhagvat.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the bridge along with Mayor A Veeraraghavamma and MLA R Suryaprakasa Rao, Ms. Sunita said the bridge could be transformed into a good tourist spot by sprucing up the entire structure.

`Hats’ (platforms) could be set up on both sides all along the bridge to enable the visitors to spend time on top of it. Similarly, both ends of the bridge could be given a facelift.
