Says CPI(M)-backed violence in two districts Says BJP’s anti-terrorism stance lacks sincerity Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress State conference resolution on terrorism has said that political murders and physical attacks against political opponents should be seen as acts of terrorism and that the Communist Party of India (Marxist)-sponsored violence in Kannur and Kasaragod districts is another face of terrorist activities. The resolution, moved by Kodoth Govindan Nair and adopted at the delegates session, says attacks against political opponents and brutal murders of opponents should be viewed as seriously as terrorist attacks that come from across the border. The resolution condemns all kinds of terrorism, whether it is of the majority community or the minority community. “Terrorism has no religion. It has no ideology, but uses weapons. It does not favour democratic debates, but propagates tension and discord. It does not speak the language of cooperation, but that of destruction,” the resolution says, emphasising the relevance of non-violence and democratic process. The resolution goes on to assert that the Indian National Congress has taken hard positions against all kinds of terrorist acts. At one stage, it had politically confronted and defeated the regime of terror perpetrated by naxalites. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a space on the political map of India by encouraging Hindutva terrorism. The Congress party had pointed out quite early in the day the dangers of majority Hindu terrorism. But Left parties and others, owing to their blind opposition to the Congress, joined hands with the BJP giving a further fillip to Hindu extremism that ended up in the destruction of the Babri Masjid. The resolution criticises Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L.K. Advani for giving leadership to acts that undermine communal amity and peace. It was the Congress party’s matured and impartial policies that helped the country tide over serious threats to communal peace. The resolution refers to the Mumbai attack and says BJP leaders’ anti-terrorism statements lack sincerity. Paying rich tributes to the soldiers and commandos who laid their lives for the security of the country, the resolution vows for the Gandhian way to face the challenges posed by terrorism.
