Thiruvananthapuram: Independents won eight of the 17 local body wards to which by-elections were held on Tuesday. Of the remaining seats, four each went to the UDF and the LDF and one to the BJP. It was from the CPI(M) that the independents wrested eight seats in Shoranur Municipality. The UDF wrested two seats and the BJP one from the LDF in the by-elections. — Special Correspondent
