Decks cleared for Wakf Board reconstitution
Special Correspondent
Hyderabad: Decks are at last cleared for the reconstitution of the A.P. State Wakf Board with the government nominating five members.
Meeting
The first meeting of the 11-member Board is expected to be held on December 29 or 30 when the new chairman will be elected.
Ilyas Sait, former Superintendent of Police, who has been nominated to the Board is tipped to head it.
The other nominated members are Syed Gulam Afzal Biyabani, Zaheer Ali Sufi, Altaf Hyder Ravi (MLC) and Faiq Ahmed.
Six members were already elected to the Board.
They include Mohd Ali Khan, Col. Nizamuddin (MPs), Shaikh Subhani (MLA), Naushad Ali (Bar Council), Akbar Nizamuddin Husaini (Muthawalli) and Mohd Abdul Jabbar (Managing Committee).
The Board, which was at the centre of controversy after the change of guard in the State, was superseded on December 14, 2004 and an IPS officer, S.A. Huda, was appointed as special officer.
For the last four years it is under the special officer regime and government is delaying reconstitution of the Board despite tremendous pressure from the Congress workers.
