FRAMES FROM THE PAST: Schoolchildren looking at pictures of heritage monuments in Karnataka during the inauguration of a photo exhibition at Venkatappa Art Gallery in Bangalore on Wednesday. Bangalore: State Directorate of Archaeology and Museums is searching for land to set up a heritage museum, where replicas of heritage monuments in Karnataka will be displayed, said Gopal R., director of Archaeology and Museums, in Bangalore on Wednesday. He said the State government sanctioned Rs. 3 crore for the project and about 50 acres of land would be required to establish the museum. The directorate had identified land at three locations — near Bengaluru International Airport, Devanahalli; Bangalore Race Course, and off National Highway-4, near Tumkur – of which one would be selected, he added. He was speaking at the inauguration of “Heritage of monuments in Karnataka”, a photo exhibition of various monuments of historical and cultural importance, in Karnataka, organised at Venkatappa Art Gallery. The museum would have an audio system, which would provide history and significance of the monuments, in a language of visitors’ choice. Photographs of monuments dating back to 10th century B.C., are on display. Photographs contain a note on the monument, the period to which it belongs, and its location. One of the oldest monuments featured was a site of tombs at Aihole which dates back to 10th century B.C.
