When over 10,000 lamps shined for peace

PEACE BE: Lamps numbering 10,008 were lit at the Tamukkam Ground in Madurai on Thursday as a part of the prayer for world peace by Tiruppavai-Tiruvempavai Isai Palli. —

MADURAI: The Tamukkam Ground here was aglow on Thursday with the light of 10,008 lamps. It was accompanied by a prayer for world peace and prosperity.

Held every year

Organised by the Tiruppavai-Tiruvempavai Music School, the tiruvilakku vazhipadu was part of 55th Margazhi Pavai Vizha being held every year.

Madurai Mayor G. Thenmozhi presided over the programme with spouses of many prominent personalities taking part.

School chairman K. Visalakshi organised the event.

Thousands of women turned up braving the drizzle that broke out in the evening hours.
