Film: Neninthe Cast: Ravi Teja, Seiya Direction: Puri Jagannath There have been innumerable stories on the film industry and quite a bit of history behind each character. Neninthe is not a satire but a reflection of the lives of the people dependent on films for survival. Right from the struggling technicians, junior artistes, the neo-riche producers and mafia who aspire to have a control over the industry to the scribes who revel in making or breaking films by writing reviews, trivia….the director shows it all suggesting that th ere will be more to this film than what lies on the surface. The film calls into question the message of control, providing a potent criticism of the role that fans play in propelling the status of a hero to their zenith, the artificial lives that stars lead and valuable lives the fans play with for their hero. The premise gives Puri Jagan license to make as much fun of directors, the rampant plagiarism of creative work and the insecurity of the producers. Ravi Teja simply rocks as a struggling, wise, patient assistant director waiting for that one elusive break. Brahmanandam is the fat, paunchy happening director who makes ridiculous demands on the producer and whose career vanishes on a Friday. Subburaju is perfect as a hero, displays his fragile ego as and when the situation demands. The rest of the artistes do their bit. Krishna Baghwan sinks his teeth as a wicked brother-in-law pushing heroine Seiya into compromising situations. Mumait as an actress wallows in self pity and blames media for her pitiable situation. The line is wafer thin, it’s about background dancer Sandhya (Seiya) trying to get a foot-hold in the industry and Ravi (Ravi Teja) helps her become an actress. Technically engaging, watch it for the jibes on anyone connected with the movie making industry, the reel and real life situations, puffed up egos and vanity of filmwallahs. Y.S.C
