India’s destiny in the next few years will be controlled by its success or failure in coping with its burgeoning population growth, a private research study said on December 14. The current issue of the Population Bulletin, analysed the Indian population problem in detail. It concluded: “A period of grace still exists for India, but the time is short. Every year that no effective attack is mounted against high fertility moves India one year nearer the demographic point of no return, when the rising tide of people swamps economic improvement.
