Corrections and clarifications

* * Clue 12 Down in The HinduCrossword 9406 (December 17, 2008) was “Sweetheart to cover the Joint Entrance Exam in the tea-producing state (10)”. The solution (December 18, 2008) was “Darjeeling”. A reader felt that the clue was misleading as Darjeeling is not a state, but a town in West Bengal. The compiler clarifies that clues are constructed in a way to make them more interesting, but the distinction was missed.

* * Somali pirates are a threat to Indian ships and seafarers in the Gulf of Aden and not the Gulf of Eden, as published in the seventh paragraph of a report “Small ships to be tracked using satellites” (December 12, 2008).
