Rally to promote cycling

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A 6-km long cycle rally was organised by the non-government organisation “Initiative for Transportation and Development Programmes” and Delhi Cycling Club on the occasion of the conclusion of the Delhi’s Public Art Festival “48 Degree Celsius Public Art Ecology” on Sunday.

The event which saw participation from cycling enthusiasts was organised to raise awareness about ecology and climate change and promote bicycle as a zero-pollution, health-friendly and alternative transportation.

The cycle rally started from Jantar Mantar and passed through key areas of Lutyens Delhi such as Parliament Street, Connaught Place, Barakhambha Road, Mandi House and Ashoka Road before culminating at Jantar Mantar.

Speaking at the event, Programme Director ITDP-India Nalin Sinha said: “Greenhouse gas emission and climate change are becoming a big area of concern for most cities world-wide. Growing vehicular pollution and change in lifestyle are making it worse. But there is still time to save our environment, cities and citizens from the adverse impact of climate change to a large extent if we start adopting and promoting eco-friendly living and travel habits.”
