S.R. Kanti remembered

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa paying tributes to the former Chief Minister S.R. Kanti in Bangalore on Sunday. Kanti Maribasamma, wife of Kanti, and Ministers Basavaraja Bommai and Ramachandra Gowda are seen.

Bangalore: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, amidst his hectic election campaign, on Sunday participated in a programme at the Vidhana Soudha on the occasion of the birth centenary of the former Chief Minister, the late S.R. Kanti.

Mr. Yeddyurappa offered floral tributes to Kanti. Maribasamma Kanti, wife of the late Chief Minister participated in the programme and honoured Mr. Yeddyurappa with a garland. Mahendra Kanti, son of S.R. Kanti was also present.

Brief tenure

Kanti was Chief Minister of the State for a brief period of 96 days in 1962. As Education Minister in the S. Nijalingappa Cabinet he was instrumental in the establishment of the Bangalore University and several professional colleges in the government sector.
