Sharif’s disclosure

Nawaz Sharif’s disclosure that the Pakistan government has sealed the village to which journalists traced the origins of Mohammad Ajmal Amir ‘Kasab,’ the terrorist captured by India during the Mumbai attacks, has exposed the link between Pakistan and the terrorists who struck on 26/11. India should now mount more pressure on Pakistan to act. Mr. Sharif might have said what he did for his personal gain but he has made it amply clear that Ajmal is a Pakistani national.

The Zardari government has been maintaining that India has not provided enough evidence to support its claim that ‘Kasab’ is a Pakistani. At least now, it should act to rein in terrorists operating from its soil.

Following a spate of warnings by the international community, Pakistan has been fooling India with empty promises, contradictory statements and cynical denials. It is an open secret that the Zardari government cannot survive if the army-ISI-terrorist nexus is broken. With the additional infiltration along the India-Bangladesh border, the subcontinent looks like a tinderbox ready to ignite.

Latha Sarma,

Chennai
