Washington: As Barack Obama prepares to assume office next month, President George W Bush has said that his successor, during his presidency, will have to face an India that is “now more confident” in its relations with Washington and “encourage” Pakistan to go after terrorists. “Obama will face a rising China, an India that is now more confident in its relationship with the United States,” Mr. Bush told in an interview to The Washington Times. “But at the same time, [Mr. Obama] will have to deal with Pakistan, and encourage the Pakistan government to continue to go after the terrorists in the remote regions of its country,” he said. On the challenges Mr. Obama will face, Mr. Bush said that in the newly emerging democracy of Iraq he would find it interesting to deal with elected officials. — PTI
