Madiga Dandora observes bandh

Staff Reporter

Three buses are damaged; police resort to lathicharge.

Amalapuram: Bandh call given by Madiga Dandora created a flutter in the Mala community-dominated Konaseema area in East Godavari district on Sunday. In different places, when Madiga community youths tried to shut down shops, Mala youths did not allow them to do so and there was scuffle between two groups. Police intervened at many places and at some places they resorted to lathicharge. Monday was the first death anniversary of Mala Mahanadu founder P.V. Rao.

At Razole, youths belong to Madiga Dandora tried to stop RTC buses between Razole and Amalapuram. When drivers did not heed their plea they started pelting stones at busses, resulting in damage of three RTC buses. At Muramalla, Mala youths were not allowed to proceed in their vehicle to attend P.V. Rao’s death anniversary at Amalapuram. There was a verbal duel between the two groups, which led to a scuffle. Police rushed to the spot and tried to control two clashing groups who tried to pelt stones on each other. Finally police resorted to lathicharge to disburse the youth. RTC buses did not ply till afternoon in Rajahmundry, Kakinada, Ramachandrapuram and other places as MRPS leaders staged dharna in front of bus depots. Rajahmundry division president Mummidivarapu Chinna Subbarao led the rally and dharna and they sat on NH-5 and traffic was disrupted for nearly one hour.
