BERHAMPUR: A youth was shot dead near Kuthari temple in the city on Monday night. According to police sources a quarrel between two groups near a liquor shop around 15 days back led to this murder. The victim was Umashankar Gouda (28) of Lathi village on the outskirts of the city. The inspector in charge of the Bada Bazar police station, Pitanath Majhi, who is investigating the case, said the assailants have been identified and they would be nabbed soon. Rajendra, who resides at Aainabandha street, and his friends recently had a brawl with another group led by Balram Gouda of the same area near a liquor shop at City High School road of the city. Balram was beaten up. Balram and his associates had decided to take revenge. They were waiting for a chance. On Monday night Rajendra was driving his bike to drop his cousin Umashankar at Lathi. It was alleged that Balram and his associates stopped his bike near Kuthari temple at around 10.30 pm. Rajendra managed to sense danger and jumped off to escape. The assailants shot two shots in darkness which hit Umashankar. He was shifted to MKCG Medical College hospital, where he died.
