Gram Pradhan shot dead

Varanasi: A village head was shot dead at Heeranandpur village in Ghazipur district, police said on Tuesday.

“Following the incident on Monday night, an FIR has been filed against six persons and one of the accused has been detained,” police sources said.

Gram Pradhan Vishnu Yadav (40) along with his younger brother had gone to oversee the construction works of a canal. However, while they were returning home, at around 7 p.m., a group of armed assailants shot dead Yadav before fleeing, they said.

Following raids at several places in the village, one person has been detained, the sources said.
