A MILESTONE: Electricity Minister A.K. Balan announcing Kallooppara as the fourth Assembly segment to achieve total electrification at a public meeting at Mallappally on Monday afternoon. — PATHANMTHITTA: Kallooppara has become the fourth Assembly constituency in the State to achieve total electrification with Electricity Minister A.K. Balan making the formal announcement at a function at Mallappally on Monday. Irinjalakuda, Mankada and Alappuzha are the other three Assembly segments that have achieved the target. Mr. Balan said reaching sustainable electricity at an affordable tariff to every household was the policy of the Left Democratic Front government. He said the State had to generate not less than 3000 MW in the next 10 years to meet the power requirements. He said many projects proposed by the Kerala State Electricity Board were facing opposition from environmentalists. He called for co-operation from all quarters for the government’s development initiatives. Joseph M. Puthusserry, MLA, presided over the function. The total electrification project at Kallooppara was supported by the MLA’s local Area Development Fund. K.Asokan, KSEB member; K.Radhakrishnan, Chief Engineer; K.Jayavarma, Philip Koshy, district panchayat members; V.R. Radhakrishnan Panicker, Additional District Magistrate; Seena Santhosh, block panchayat president; and Kuruvila George, grama panchayat president, also spoke.
