DEHRA DUN: The Chief Information Commissioner, R.S. Tolia, has directed the Uttarakhand Government to appoint Village Development Officers as information officers of gram panchayats under the Right to Information Act within a month. Dr. Tolia’s orders come as a reprieve to the gram pradhans who had been made information officers by the Government recently. The pradhans, besides being too busy as heads of panchayats, were also not familiar with the right to information law. A large number of women panchayat representatives had recently passed a resolution seeking withdrawal of the Government order making pradhans information officers.
