B.S. Yeddyurappa Deodurga (Raichur dist.): Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has said that the Government is determined to take steps to remove backwardness of Deodurga constituency, giving priority to improve irrigation and rural roads. Addressing a public gathering as part of party’s election campaign here on Tuesday, he said the Deodurga constituency had not seen any development even after 60 years of Independence. In its report, the High-Powered Committee for Redressal of Regional Imbalances had tagged Deodurga as most backward region in the State. The Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) were responsible for its backwardness, he said. He said that Deodurga lacked all basic facilities and majority of the villages here were still facing drought-like situation despite the Krishna flowing nearby. Implementation of the Narayanapura Right Bank Canal had not helped improve irrigation in the region, forcing people to migrate towards cities in search of employment. Internal roads were not in a good condition and there were no buses to 80 villages in the segment. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government would take immediate action to set these problems right, he promised. On the need for holding byelections in the State, the Chief Minister said that peoplehad given mandate to the BJP in previous elections. But the party was short of some seats to form a stable Government. The situation had necessitated that K.Shivangouda Naik, who was elected form Deodurga as a Janata Dal (Secular) candidate, resigned and joined the BJP and faced the byelections. He appealed to the people to re-elect Mr. Shivangouda Naik, helping formation of a strong Government in the State.
