SC panel ‘not in favour’ of categorisation

Panel rejects Justice Usha Mehra’s report

Manda Krishna ‘misleading’ community

HYDERABAD: The National Commission of Scheduled Castes has reiterated its stand against the categorisation of Scheduled Castes into ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ and ‘D’ groups.

Commission Chairman Buta Singh made it clear, in a letter addressed to All-India Confederation of SC/ST Organisations general secretary K. P. Choudary that the commission “is not at all in favour of categorisation of SCs.”

Division of SCs

The Commission had not accepted the report of Justice Usha Mehra on ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ and ‘D’ categorisation in Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Buta Singh said in the letter.

Releasing copies of the letter at a press conference here on Tuesday, Mala Mahanadu president and Member of Legislative Counil J. Prabhakar Rao said the commission’s observations vindicated the 14-year struggle launched by the Mahanadu against “division of the SCs”. Even the commission headed by Justice Usha Mehra clarified that Madigas, Malas, Adi Andhras were better off when compared with 56 other communities in SCs.

Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti president Manda Krishna was, however, keeping the facts in the dark and trying to ‘mislead’ the community.

Poser

He wondered as to why Mr. Manda Krishna was not raising issues pertaining to development of Madiga community and concentrating on the categorisation, that was against the spirit of the ideals cherished by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
