JAIPUR: After releasing 48,000 electricity connections till November during the current financial year, the Jaipur Vidyut Vitaran Nigam on Monday decided to release 15,569 new agricultural power connections till March 31, 2009. Jaipur Discom Chairman and Managing Director R.G. Gupta said at a meeting of senior officers here that the financial year’s targets for giving new connections to domestic consumers and families living below poverty line would also be achieved on time. Mr. Gupta said power was being supplied under the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme to 582 hamlets with a population of over 100, while 500 more such hamlets would be covered under the scheme by the end of the financial year. The meeting was told that over 68,600 applications for new connections pending in the rural areas since the previous financial year had been cleared. About 30,000 connections in this category will be released till March 31, 2009. Mr. Gupta pointed out that the Jaipur Discom was taking steps for achieving the target of reducing the transmission and distribution losses by 5 per cent this year.
