ZP chairperson refutes charges

Correspondent

VIZIANAGARAM: Zilla Parishad Chairperson B. Appala Naidu has strongly refuted the allegations of TDP president Y. Ramana Murty that he and Minister for Housing Botcha Satyanarayana had been collecting 15 per cent on works allotted on nomination basis to contractors.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Mr. Naidu said that there was not an iota of truth in the allegations .

With regard to conducting Zilla Parishad general body meeting for two days, the Chairperson said that there was no precedent in the State, except in Srikakulam where the meeting was conducted for two days. There was no rule in the Panchayat Raj Act for extending period of the general body meeting, he said and added that it could be done if only majority ZP members and the Chairperson adopted a resolution. He flayed Mr. Ramana Murty for raising issues not related to people of the district in the meeting and politicising them. He conceded that during his 22 months tenure nine general body meetings were held but not on one occasion progress of all the 54 government departments was discussed due to departmental problems and time factor.

Mr. Appala Naidu said that Mr. Ramana Murty as TDP district president had been doing a favour to both Congress and Praja Rajyam Party with his style of functioning in all the nine Assembly constituencies in the district where groupism in TDP was to the fore.

DCMS Chairman K.V. Suryanarayana Raju and the party official spokesperson Yedla Adi Raju were present.
