Indira Sivasailam passes away

CHENNAI: Indira Sivasailam, wife of A. Sivasailam, Chairman, Amalgamations Group, died at a private hospital here on Tuesday after a brief illness. She was 73. She is survived by her husband and two daughters, Mallika Srinivasan and Jayshree Venkatraman, Directors of Tractors and Farm Equipment (TAFE) Limited.

She was born into a family of seven sisters and two brothers. She married Mr. Sivasailam in 1959.

A degree holder in music, Mrs. Sivasailam was a connoisseur of Carnatic music. She, along with her husband, was involved in a number of service activities and charitable causes, including old age homes, schools and Veda Patasala.

As one who believed that education was the path to excellence for women, Mrs. Sivasailam was a source of inspiration to her daughters. She was deeply involved in Sanskrit studies.
