Roads, storm water drains, streetlights to be included Jhilmil, Mayapuri, Kirti Nagar, Badli to be developed NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will be upgrading the civic infrastructure in the industrial areas and estates in Delhi at a cost of Rs 680 crore. The announcement was made by Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra on Tuesday. The upgradation would be in terms of roads, storm water drains, streetlights, effluent treatment, disposal of industrial wastes and parking facilities. “These areas or estates were developed by the Delhi Development Authority and Industries Department of Delhi Government through Delhi State Industrial Development Corporation and subsequently handed over to MCD for maintenance of services,” she added. According to the Economic Survey of Delhi 2001-02, there were 1.29 lakh industrial units that were providing employment to around 15 lakh workers. The MCD maintains the civic services of 13 industrial areas in the city. The Mayor informed that the Corporation has initiated infrastructural improvement work in Okhla Industrial Area under the third party supervision of Central Road and Research Institute while in remaining 12 industrial estates, schemes are under preparation with technical assistance of CRRI. “Appropriate provisions are being made in the budget to implement the upgradation schemes in a phased manner over a period of three years beginning from 2009-10,” she added. Some of the industrial areas to be developed by MCD include Jhilmil Industrial Area, Mayapuri phase I and II, Kirti Nagar, Lawrence Road, Mongolpuri phase I and II, Udyog Nagar, Badli, Naraina and Wazirpur.
