The project outlay is about Rs. 100 crore Medians to be provided along all arterial roads 
Initiative: Ordeal caused by narrow roads and unmarked edges to motorists is to get a relief as Tirupur Corporation plans to improve quality of roads. – Tirupur: Constricted roads leading to frequent traffic snarls, damaged road margins and uneven riding surfaces are some of the problems encountered by the motorists in the city for long which makes them think twice before venturing out in their costly cars. To soothe the tribulations, the Corporation plans to carry out a holistic road upgrading project at an outlay of about Rs. 100 crore in a phased manner ensuring durable service for all seasons besides providing an aesthetic environment. The project cost will be obtained from corpus created under the head of Tamil Nadu Urban Road Infrastructure Fund. Municipal Commissioner M. Ashokan told The Hindu that an Integrated City Road Plan would be prepared for the project shortly with the help of a design-supervision management consultant to be appointed by Tamil Nadu Urban Infrastructure Financial Services Limited. ResponsibilityThe consultant will be also be entrusted with the responsibility of preparation of bill of quantities (BoQ), cost estimates and bid documents pertaining to the project. Of the 408 km road network in the city spread over 27 sq km, about 300 km will be covered under the scheme. “Our plan is to develop a sustainable urban road infrastructure with proper storm water drainage, ducting facilities for electricity and telephone cables, avenue plantation and pavements with guard rails, to meet the functional and mobility requirements of vehicles as well as other road users like pedestrians,” Mr. Ashokan said. Medians will be provided along arterial roads and other roads in busy commercial areas, to streamline traffic flow. Signage systemSimilarly, uniform user-friendly road signage system will be developed. to effectively guide commuters passing through the city. Mr. Ashokan said that the entire assets created under the scheme would be digitised using Geographical Information System (GIS) technologies for easy maintenance.
