AIIMS doctors flay PM’s ‘interference’

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Progressive Medicos and Scientists Forum has condemned the “interference of the Prime Minister” in filling up the back log of vacancies of reserved category faculty posts at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences.

“The latest memorandum of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare putting the process of filling up the back log of reserved category seats in abeyance has been issued on direct instructions given by the Prime Minister’s Office. The letter written by Santosh Kumar (a director in the Ministry) addressed to T.D. Dogra (acting director of AIIMS), refers to PMO’s I.D. No. 520/31/C/65/2008 ES2, that instructs that ‘matter is under consideration in the PMO’,” alleged Vikas Bajpai, spokesperson of the forum on Tuesday.

“Insincere”

“This move demonstrates that the dominant section of the Congress party is not only insincere in implementing the Constitutional provision of reservations in higher educational institutions, but is leaving no stone unturned in defeating this provision,” he charged. The Ministry had recently decided that the process of recruitment for the AIIMS faculty posts under the special recruitment drive for Schedule Castes/Tribes and Other Backward Classes as advertised in November this year “will be kept in abeyance, till further orders.”

The forum has demanded that the Parliament should take note of this “violation” of the Constitution.
