Rousing reception to MP

A Correspondent

Nedumbassery: P.C. Thomas, Member of Parliament from Muvattupuzha, and leader of Karshaka Aikya Vedi, who arrived here on Tuesday after leading a Parliament march, was accorded a rousing reception by activists of the vedi.

Mr. Thomas said the Parliament march, which was to highlight the plight of the farmers in Kerala, was a big success as the Central government had, in principle, agreed to a majority of the forum’s demands.

He said their demand for raising the import duty on rubber, introducing subsidy for rubber exports and increasing the subsidy for replanting rubber would also be considered by the government.

He urged the Union government to set up the Cashew Board and Areca Nut Board to save the farmers.
