Encroachments removed in Tambaram
Special Correspondent
TAMBARAM: Officials of Public Works Department (PWD), staff of the Revenue Department of Tambaram Taluk commenced the demolition of unauthorised structures that had encroached on the ‘Periya Eri’ in Tambaram on Tuesday.
The PWD had already initiated a crackdown against encroachments on water bodies in the southern suburbs of Chennai by bringing down unauthorised structures in Tambaram ‘Pudhu Thaangal’ and Narayanapuram Lake in Pallikaranai.
Residents of West Tambaram and Irumbuliyur, who would be losing their property, including shops and houses, began to retrieve their property on their own as even repeated requests for more time were turned down. The residents said that a few thousand people would be put to severe hardship if the government agencies went ahead with this eviction operation.
