Chennai: Tamil Nadu Special Police’s profligacy allowed AGORC to recover from 0-1 down to win 2-1 in a St. Joseph’s-CFA senior division football match here on Tuesday. TNSP went ahead in the ninth minute, K. Kumaran making himself space just outside the box to rifle into the far corner. Immediately after that, TNSP nearly scored again, C. Kanagaraj shot went wide after a terrific back-heel from Bharat Kingsley had created the chance for him. AGORC, meanwhile, went about its job with patient build-up play, with the diminutive midfielder A. Jestes Antony switching the ball from flank to flank and the bulky but deceptively skilful R. Selvakumar knitting his side together with neat first-touch passing with his back to goal. Reward came in the 26th minute, when Selvakumar chested down a cross in the box, and scuffed his volley into the path of left-winger Rajmohan, who slotted in athletically off the post. Ten minutes after half-time, AGORC made TNSP pay the price. P. Muthu — brought down by goalkeeper S. Gunaseelan as both players tried to get to a measured long ball from Selvakumar first — earned a penalty. N. Ashok Kumar sent the yellow-carded ’keeper the wrong way from his spot-kick. The first division match between RBI and TNEB ended in a goalless draw. Harikrishnan winsM. Harikrishnan clinched the singles title in the district carrom tournament, organised by the Kancheepuram District Carrom Training Centre. The results: Open singles: M. Harikrishnan bt Srinivasan (APSO) 20-15, 25-18. Open doubles: G.D. Dominic & D. Sai Ram bt P. Ravishankar & M. Senthil Kumar (KDCA training centre) 23-3, 5-25, 19-13. Non medallist singles: V. Subramani bt G. Murali (OCF) 25-0, 1-25, 19-6. Madras triumphsMadras won the Karan Singh Trophy for the all-India inter-zone inter-university chess championship held in Bihar recently. Madras beat five universities and drew with one. The results: Madras bt Calcutta 2.5-1.5; bt SRM 2.5-1.5; bt Delhi 3 -1; bt Ranchi 3..5-0.5; bt Punjab 3.5-0.5; drew with Osmania 2-2.
