SEZs: Chiru backs EG farmers’ fight

Staff Reporter

Gajwel (Medak DT.): Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi on Wednesday extended support to the fight being waged by the farmers and fishermen of East Godavari district to protect their farm lands from being acquired for special economic zone (SEZ) saying that it was just fight.

Addressing a gathering here as part Praja Ankita Sabha, Chiranjeevi said that even the court also supported their argument stating that farm lands should not be allotted to the SEZs.

“What can people do except fighting against the government, if they are asked to vacate their village all of a sudden? Why green fields should be allotted to SEZs. This has become the policy of the government. The government has no human face,” he said.

Chiranjeevi said the people of East Godavari were inspired by the fighting spirit exhibited by the Lingaraupalli villagers in Gajwel constituency who refused to give away their lands to an SEZ.
